Like a Moonrise

Circlet Press is looking for erotic coming-of-age stories about animal shapeshifters for the new ebook anthology, Like a Moonrise, edited by Artemis Savory and Cecilia Tan. All animals have instincts, but what happens when those instincts emerge in someone who is already settled in human life? Whether your character is just reaching adulthood (18+ characters only please) or whether their shapeshifting gives them a whole new adolescence, explore the struggle with urges and maturity. Most animals have a tender side, but sometimes they’re driven too far. What becomes suddenly irresistible, or despised? How does the particular shape affect their human lives? Are things different for werewolves versus were-tigers, for shifters who have phases versus those who can change at will? We’re looking for stories that focus on a human’s new identity as he/she becomes a shapeshifter, the everyday temptations and restraints, and especially the breaking point. Circlet Press welcomes sex-positive stories of all sexualities and preferences.

Submission Details:
Deadline for submission is October 15th. Our preferred length is approximately 3500 to 7500 words, but we will consider the range from 2000 to 10,000 words. All submissions must be made via email to the following address: artemissavory@gmail.com.

More details: Submissions sent to other addresses/other editors at Circlet Press will not be considered. Standard manuscript formatting rules apply even though sending as an attachment (MS Word .doc or .rtf preferred). Please note that this means your name, address, and email contact must appear on the manuscript itself and not simply in your email message. (If you’re not sure what standard short story submission format should look like, Google is your friend.)

No simultaneous submissions (that is, don’t also send your story elsewhere at the same time, and don’t send it to multiple Circlet editors, either), and no multiple submissions to the same book. One story per author per anthology, thanks.

All stories must include explicit sexuality and erotic focus. Romantic content is welcome, but in a short story remember to keep the details on the action and its effects on the main character’s internal point of view. Whether first person or third person, a strong, singular narrative voice is our preference (no ‘head hopping’ or swapping points of view within scene).

For more details on our editorial preferences, see the general submission guidelines on circlet.com. We highly recommend reading the guidelines, especially the “do not send” list, to increase your chances of sending us something we’ll love. Try to avoid cliches. Fresh and direct language is preferred to overly euphemistic. Sex-positive, please, no rape/nonconsensuality/necrophilia or other purposefully gross topics. We do not publish horror.

Originals only, no reprints. We purchase first rights for inclusion in the ebook anthology for $25, with the additional rights to a print edition later which would also be paid $25 if a print edition happens. Authors retain the rights to the individual stories; Circlet exercises rights to the anthology as a whole.

Like an Iron Fist

Circlet Press is seeking submissions for its new ebook anthology Like an Iron Fist: Dystopian Erotica, edited by Katherine Bergeron and Cecilia Tan. We are looking for stories that explicitly expose the erotic edge of tyranny and human desire. The best novels of the genre (1984, Brave New World, Handmaid’s Tale) simmer with passion under the surface of societal oppression. Reveal that passion to us, celebrate the sexuality that bursts forth; that’s what we’re looking for. Kink and queer stories are very welcome, as this volume will mix stories of various sexualities.

Call for Submissions: Samhain Publishing Cyberpunk Romance Anthology

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Forwarded with permission

* * * * *

Welcome to the future, a cyberpunk future—-post-industrial dystopias where society has broken down; a world of advanced science, cybernetic and tech. The cyberpunk world is a dark and gritty place, blurring the border between actual and virtual reality.

I’m very happy to announce an open call for submissions for a new, yet-to-be-titled summer 2011 cyberpunk romance anthology. Don’t know what cyberpunk is? Think The Matrix and Bladerunner, or the popular role-playing/computer game/book series Shadowrun. For more information on cyberpunk, you can check out the entry on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk.

I’m open to M/F, M/M, F/F, or multiples thereof, any sexual heat level, and the romance must end happily ever after or happy for now.
The novellas must range between 25,000 to 30,000 words in length, no more, no less—please note, only manuscripts that fall in this word count will be considered for this anthology—and will be released individually as ebooks in August 2011.

Submissions are open to all authors, published with Samhain or aspiring to be published with Samhain. All submissions must be new material—previously published submissions will not be considered. Additionally, manuscripts previously submitted, whether individually or for past anthologies, will not be considered either. Be aware that manuscripts submitted to this anthology cannot be resubmitted at a later date unless by invitation from an editor.

To submit a manuscript for consideration, please include:

The full manuscript (of 25,000 to 30,000 words) with a comprehensive 2-5 page synopsis. Also include a letter of introduction/query letter. Full manuscripts are required for this as it is a special project.

As well, when you send your manuscript, be sure to use the naming convention Cyberpunk_Title_MS and Cyberpunk_Title_Synopsis. This will ensure that your submission doesn’t get missed in the many submissions we receive, and makes it easy for me to find in my ebook reader.

Submissions are open until February 1, 2011.
No submissions will be accepted after this date—no exceptions. A final decision will be made by February 28, 2011. Send your submission to editor@samhainpublishing.com and include Cyberpunk Anthology in the subject line.

Questions and queries can be addressed to Sasha Knight (sasha@samhainpublishing.com) though do your due diligence and read this anthology call completely and check the Samhain Submission FAQ page before emailing. http://www.samhainpublishing.com/faq
